Urgent town hall to discuss overdevelopment

An urgent town hall meeting, “Saving the Far West Village From Overdevelopment: What Now?” will be held Thurs., Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., at 75 Morton St., first floor. According to the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, the city is considering the society’s proposals to protect historic buildings and impose height and bulk limits for new construction in the Far West Village. However, the society says, right now seven buildings in the area between the Greenwich Village Historic District and the Hudson River are slated for demolition and new construction. The town hall meeting will offer the latest news on these developments and information on how to combat overdevelopment in the unlandmarked waterfront area.

The meeting is jointly sponsored by G.V.S.H.P., the Greenwich Village Community Task Force, the Federation to Preserve the Greenwich Village Waterfront and Great Port and Community Board 2. For more information, go to www.gvshp.org or call G.V.S.H.P. at 212-475-9585.
