More room for walking, less for cars

A preliminary plan by the Department of Transportation for improving pedestrian safety in the Astor Pl./Cooper Sq. area shows in green where existing roadbed would be replaced, mainly with sidewalk and possibly to a lesser degree green space or planters. Closing part of Astor Pl. is also under consideration.
