In what is sure to go down in the annals of local sports history, a group claiming to be The New York City Synchronized Swimming Team participated in a trial last Saturday afternoon in Washington Sq. for the Summer Olympics. Claiming they couldn’t find an indoor pool, they opted for the park’s fountain instead. Doing their coordinated routine to Styx’s “Come Sail Away With Me,” they won over the crowd — and also the judges, who gave them a 9…another 9 and then…a crucial 10, which was enough to put them over the top and send them to Athens. They promised to bring the gold home to New York City.
