Volume 73, Number 7 | June 16 - 22, 2004

What ever happened to...?

Joyce Hartwell, Albany Regional vice president of ARISE, front row, second from left, joined other members of ARISE, the Interfaith Alliance of New York State and the Arise Clergy Caucus in a June 1 demonstration in Albany to protest against the punitive Rockefeller Drug Laws. A graduate of the Village’s Little Red Schoolhouse, Hartwell formerly ran the All-Craft Center, a substance-abuse recovery program that in its early days taught construction trades skills, on St. Mark’s Pl. between Third and Second Aves. All-Craft fell into bankruptcy, and a few years ago its buildings were acquired by a developer. Hartwell relocated to Albany.
