Dan Carpenter is remembered
Roger Carpenter addressed Hudson Guild members at the March 16 memorial service for his father Dan (in blow-up photo behind) at the Guild Senior Center. Dan Carpenter, executive director of the settlement house for 40 years and a role model for Chelsea youth since he came to the Guild in 1932, died Feb. 5 in Arizona at the age of 95. Whoopi Goldberg, raised in the Elliott Chelsea Houses and a member of the Guild as a child, sent a video in which she paid a moving tribute to Dan Carpenter. The comedienne and actress said generations of people in Chelsea are better off because of Carpenters work.
