A legendary night for Weston
Randy Weston, the renowned pianist, composer and bandleader, received the Village Music Legend Award at the Third Annual Village Jazz Alive event at the Blue Note on Mon, Sept. 26. Above, Weston performed with his African Rhythms Quintet. Below right, Weston, with Tony Juliano, chairperson of the Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the annual award, and Elizabeth Butson, Village Jazz Alive chairperson and G.V.C.C.C. vice chairperson. Below left, Weston performing on piano. With a career spanning six decades, Weston, a Brooklyn native who lived in Africa, is known for synthesizing jazz technique and African musical elements.
