Parker fights poverty
Gary Parker has been appointed deputy director of New York University’s McSilver Institute of Poverty Policy, Practice and Research. The institute was launched by N.Y.U.’s Silver School of Social Work in late 2009. Through the institute, Parker will develop partnerships with area social-service agencies to undertake broad, complex, in-depth efforts to address issues surrounding poverty. Parker’s new position will utilize his training as a social worker, advocate and community organizer. He will continue as director of N.Y.U.’s Office of Government and Community Affairs through Feb. 25.
