Is it live — or Society for Preservation?

The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation has created a “Virtual Tour of the Historic South Village” to promote the campaign to landmark this unprotected area of the Village. The direct link to the site is http://www.gvshp.org/south_villageenter.htm. The virtual tour includes scores of photographs, tons of historic information, a useful and easy-to-read map and historic maps of the South Village and Village. The maps show how the streets in the Village themselves changed over time, such as Sixth and Seventh Aves. being extended through the Village, Hammersly St. becoming Houston St., Hammond St. becoming W. 11th St., Old Skinner Road becoming Christopher St. and Amity St. becoming W. Third St.
