Father Patrick Paschak of St. Georges Church
Father Patrick Paschak, longtime pastor at St. Georges Ukrainian Catholic Church on E. Seventh St. near Third Ave., died on Nov. 25 in the hospital, after a long illness from cancer. He was 82. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, he was principal at St. Georges High School from 1949-59, was provincial superior for the Basilian Church in America from 1970-82 and head pastor at St. Georges Church from 1981-2000, when he retired, after which he continued to live at and help run St. Georges. He was involved in the construction of St. Georges School, the new church and a 13-story building belonging to the church. He gave the benediction when Dr. George Campbell Jr. was installed as Cooper Unions president four years ago. Sunday night a panachyda, or special service, was held for Father Patrick at St. Georges, and on Monday a Mass was held for him at the church. He is survived by a brother, Walter, and a sister, Ephiphanie, a nun. He will be buried in Winnipeg.
