Grannies urge Obama to keep ‘promise’ to end war
Wed., Jan. 14, marked exactly five years since Grandmothers Against the War started their weekly vigil in Rockefeller Center. Several dozen Grannies braved below-freezing temperatures on Fifth Ave. in Midtown to unfurl a 10-foot-long banner urging Barack Obama to end the Iraq War. Organizer Joan Wile held a sign reading, “4226,” the number of U.S. troops killed in the war as of Jan. 14. “We hope to remind the president-elect that he was supported by us principally because of his promise to bring the troops home quickly,” said Barbara Walker.
