Arthur Webb to be C.O.O. of St. Vincent’s Hospital

By Albert Amateau

Arthur Webb, president and chief executive officer of Village Care of New York, will resign on Feb. 9 to become chief operating officer of St. Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village.

Webb announced the move in a letter on Tuesday to the Village Care of New York staff.

“Over the 15 years that I have been at Village Care, we have expanded our reach to many individuals who are disabled, frail seniors and persons living with H.I.V./AIDS,” he said. “This has been a wonderful journey, especially working with amazing people at Village Care.”

Emma DeVito, chief operating officer of Village Care of New York, will be the organization’s acting chief executive officer.

V.C.N.Y., which was organized 30 years ago to save the Village Nursing Home on Hudson St., is currently building a new $35.5 million center for rehabilitation and nursing on West Houston St. between Sixth Ave. and Varick St.

Webb will take on his new position as St. Vincent’s Hospital is seeking city approvals for a proposed new 299-foot-tall hospital on the west side of Seventh Ave. at 12th St. The project involves the sale of the present St. Vincent’s campus on the east side of Seventh Ave. to the Rudin Organization for a residential development with a 200-foot-tall apartment tower.

Webb called St. Vincent’s a vital community facility and a major medical center.

“I am looking forward to working with Henry Amoroso, president and C.E.O of St. Vincent’s,” he said in his letter. “I feel that I can contribute to achieving the goals the hospital has set out, which are built on its mission and great 150-year history. I share in their commitment to building a new 21st-century hospital to be the centerpiece of a growing, sustainable, health system,” Webb said.
