‘Don’t demolish tenant protections’

From left, Councilmember Gale Brewer, State Senator Liz Krueger, W. 50th St. tenant Laura Taylor, Assemblymember Micah Kellner and Councilmember Rosie Mendez were among the politicians at a City Hall rally Tuesday morning calling on the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal not to modify the demolition eviction provision to make it easier to force out tenants. Specifically, the politicians and tenant advocates fear D.H.C.R. will codify demolition eviction to include the gut-rehabbing of individual apartments, allowing selective evictions within buildings.
