A crowd of 3,000 people waited to get into the new Apple Store on W. 14th St. last Friday.

Silver in super effort for market

The future of the Cherry St. Pathmark is still up for grabs, but Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is trying to get information for concerned residents. On Wed., Dec. 12, Silver will meet with executives at A & P, the company slated to buy Pathmark, to advocate a supermarket remaining on the site.
“So many of my constituents rely upon this market for baby formula, foodstuffs, medicine and other important items,” Silver said in a statement. “Closing the doors to this large, conveniently located, 24-hour supermarket would create a void for our growing community and, in particular, for the thousands of local residents within walking distance of this store.”

Rumors of the store’s closure surfaced in the process of Pathmark’s sale to A & P, which should be final by early next year. Documents filed with the Securities Exchange Commission indicate that Pathmark cannot announce store closures while the sale is pending.
