A 13-year-old teenager from a Hudson Square alternative school stabbed another teen from the school on Wed., Jan. 24, on Grand St. and West Broadway around noon, according to police.

The victim, also 13, was stabbed in the ribs and was in stable condition at St. Vincent’s Hospital on Jan. 24, according to Rick Lee, First Precinct community affairs officer.

Lee said that hospital officials indicated that the victim would recover and the injury was not serious. First Precinct detectives were questioning the suspect last week. They did not release his name since it’s customary for police to withhold the names of minors.

Lee said that a long-standing feud between the two students of The Door was the likely cause of the altercation a few blocks away from the school.

The Door is a youth-development agency that educates and helps teens who have dropped out or been expelled from other schools.

Lee said that both students were suspended from their previous schools before going to The Door.

The Door was founded in 1970 and serves youths between 12 and 21 years old. It offers free healthcare, prenatal care, mental health counseling, legal services, G.E.D. and E.S.L. classes, college preparation, career development services and training, job placement and daily meals.

Officials with the organization and its parent organization, University Settlement, did not return two calls for comment.
