Alfano is N.Y.U. executive V.P.

Dr. Michael C. Alfano, dean of the New York University College of Dentistry since 1998, became executive vice president of the university this week, succeeding Jacob Lew, who left for a private-sector job.

As N.Y.U. executive vice president, Alfano will oversee budget and finance, human relations and real estate, planning and construction, according to a July 16 announcement by John Sexton, N.Y.U. president.

Alfano was professor of periodontics and biological sciences, as well as dean of the dental school. He first came to N.Y.U. from the Clinton administration where he was director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Sharon Greenberger, N.Y.U.’s inaugural vice president of real estate and campus planning, recently left to head the Schools Construction Authority in the Bloomberg administration.

University spokesperson John Beckman said Greenberger’s job still has to be filled.

“As was the case with his predecessor in the post of executive vice president, Mike Alfano’s portfolio will include the planning and construction operations,” he said. “With Sharon Greenberger’s departure…we are currently seeking someone to directly supervise those operations.”
