Vesuvio will overflow with new improvements after renovation
After 25 years, Vesuvio Playground on the corner of Spring and Thompson Sts. is finally getting a makeover.
The $2.8 million project, which was at Councilmember Christine Quinns behest, should be complete by September 2007, according to Carli Smith, a Parks Department spokesperson.
Improvements will include a new playground, an in-ground childrens swimming pool to replace an old, aboveground one and a spray shower. The chess and checkers tables will remain but will receive new playing tops, and the handball and basketball courts will refurbished, too.
Also, the whole park will be repaved, said Smith, and more flowers will be planted.
Parks workers have removed four sick trees from the .635-acre park, and trees from inside the park have been transplanted to the perimeter.
