Will mission ever be accomplished?
On Sun. March 19, during a weekend of protests marking the third anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, several hundred people participated in the War Resisters Leagues coffin march demonstration. Without a permit, and walking in pairs on the sidewalk, the protesters traveled from 59th St. and Fifth Ave. until they reached 43rd St. and Seventh Ave. There several of them walked into the middle of the avenue carrying symbolic black cardboard coffins on top of which were symbolic body bags and sat down in street. There were 19 arrests. Above, a young woman knelt in the middle of Seventh Ave. by a symbolic body bag a minute before being arrested.
