Golden moment at Chelsea Piers

Earlier this month, a group of Olympians helped the organization Right To Play kick off the opening of its first United States office in its new space at Chelsea Piers. Clockwise from above: Julian Desantis of the West Village, left, and Samantha Frias of Chelsea, center, both 5-year-old P.S. 11 students, enjoyed a spin on the ice at Sky Rink at the Right To Play launch event; Joey Cheek, who won gold and silver medals in speed skating at last month’s Winter Games in Italy, was joined by Olympic champion swimmer Jenny Thompson as he displayed his gold medal; Cheek looked on as Lillie Benkoil, 5, of Chelsea’s P.S. 11, admired his gold medal, held by Kerry Slatkoff. Right To Play tries to improve the lives of children around the world through sports. Cheek donated his $40,000 in Olympic winnings to Right To Play.
