Gold standard for athletes

Speed skater Joey Cheek, right, who won gold and silver medals at the Winter Olympics in Italy, and Johann Koss, a Norwegian four-time speed-skating gold medallist and president of Right to Play, left, planned to be at Sky Rink on Pier 61 at Chelsea Piers on Wednesday morning March 8 to celebrate the opening of Right to Play’s first American office, located in Chelsea Piers. Also to join them at the event were U.S. swimmer Jenny Thompson and a host of other Olympians. Cheek donated all his Olympic winnings — he was awarded $40,000 in cash to go along with his medals — to the organization, which promotes sports as a positive activity for disadvantaged youth around the world.
