Cherry Lane set to bloom again

A preview on Monday of the historic Cherry Lane Theatre, where renovations are being completed, was attended by, from left, Angelina Fiordellisi, the theater’s artistic director; Matt Williams, a board member of the Cherry Lane Theatre; actor Tamara Tuni; playwright Michael Weller; and James King, the theater’s managing director, seen in the main-stage theater space where renovations are being completed. The Cherry Lane, an incubator for playwrights and actors throughout its long history, will reopen with a gala event on April 3 at which honorees will include playwright Edward Albee; John F. Breglio, the theater and entertainment attorney; playwright David Henry Hwang; and City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn. The gala host will be actress Judith Ivey. The program will include special performances and appearances by F. Murray Abraham, Amiri Baraka, Robby Benson, Billy Crudup, Karla DeVito, Dule Hill and others.
