The Lower East Side: Change amid tradition

New businesses are changing the face of the Lower East Side. Clockwise from above: A new wine bar at Rivington and Ludlow Streets is thriving in the same space where five previous businesses, including a Mexican restaurant and health restaurant, didn’t make it; at a two-year-old Chinese dumpling house on Eldridge Street between Broome and Grand Streets, an employee brings out some fresh bread that will be sliced and filled with meat and greens to make an affordable “pancake;” Lolli by Reincarnation, a new boutique on Stanton Street; the recently opened Starbucks at Allen and Delancey Streets is drawing more customers than the Burger King there before it did.
