Gauchos win three, improving to 10-1

The Lower East Side Gauchos 14-and-under team swept three more games this week. In the Harlem RBI League the Gauchos destroyed the East Harlem Eagles 16-1. Ace pitcher Michael Moreno got the win, running his record to 6-0. Michael Corona had a double and a triple and shortstop Richie Pesos went 3-for-4 including a grand slam homerun.

The Gauchos also swept a doubleheader from neighborhood rival Aguila, 15-3, 15-12. The star of the day was 13-year-old Chris “Red” Rivera who hit two home runs, giving him three for the season, a new Gaucho record. Manchild Ishmael Alvarez also went deep with his second homerun of the season. Corona was the winning pitcher in the first game.

In the second game, Ozzie Berrios pitched four no-hit innings and left the game with the Gauchos leading 15-4. In the sixth inning, however, Aguila came alive. Rypton Rosen led off the inning for Aguila with a double, then Carlos Cherrez joined the long-ball club with a massive home run. Aguila would go on to score six in the inning. After holding the Gauchos in the bottom of the six, Aguila scored two more in the seventh, and then loaded the bases with nobody out, with the batter the go-ahead run. Reliever Alvarez then calmed down and struck out the side ending the game. The Gauchos record improved to 10-1.
