Gauchos back in the saddle again

The 14-and-under Lower East Side Gauchos swept a doubleheader from the Flushing Athletics in Felix Millan League play last Saturday morning. They won the first game, 16-12, and the second, 12-0. The second game was called after four innings due to the mercy rule. Michael Moreno, Danny Nunez and Red Rivera continued to lead the Gauchos. Moreno was the winning pitcher in the first game and was 7 for 8 for the day with 6 RBI. The Athletics were unable to get Nunez out all day. They walked him four times and he had two doubles. Nunez also got the save in the first game and as the catcher threw out his seventh baserunner of the young season. Rivera threw a two-hit shutout in the second game. The Gauchos are now 5-1 overall, 3-1 in Felix Millan play.

The 16-and-under L.E.S. Gauchos defeated Kips Bay Youth Empowerment, 6-4, Thursday behind the sterling pitching of Christian Gold. The 16U Gauchos are now 3-0 in Felix Millan play.

The 16U Gauchos Travel Team went to Allentown, Penn., this weekend and finished third in the East Coast Baseball Tournament there. The top four teams receive points for nationals. Jeffrey Rodriguez, from Murray Bergtraum High School, hit a 3-run homer in the tournament. The travel team is now 3-3.
