Crack response

Evidence of cracking in a floor slab in the elevator bank in the cellar of 21 Bond St. between Bowery and Lafayette St. brought firefighters to the building next door to a construction site at 23 Bond St. at 11 a.m. Wed., March 23. The Department of Buildings stopped construction for a while and the street was closed until stress tests indicated that the building was safe.
