The fountain

The park’s 1850s fountain would be centered with the Arch. The material of the bluestone fountain would be conserved and kept intact, though the concrete steps/seating inside the fountain would be replaced with granite ones. Also, several granite urns would be restored on top of the rim of the fountain. The programming and use of the fountain would continue in exactly the same manner as now — for buskers and for children’s use as a water fountain — Vellonakis said. The refurbished fountain might include a dramatic vertical spray of water, as existed in the 1970s, as well as more powerful side jets.
