Powered by hipsters instead of huskies, dragging shopping carts instead of dog sleds, the Idiotarod mushed its way from Brooklyn to Tompkins Sq. in the East Village last Saturday. The high-energy event a sort of running frat party was highlighted beforehand in a New York Post article. After the revelers arrived at Tompkins Sq., they popped open beers and partied in the park. And instead of cleaning up after themselves, they simply tossed their carts into a big pile (top photo) and left them for someone else to deal with. They also left their beer cases and cups (right), beer cans and wine bottles strewn about. A few other carts were abandoned on Avenue A. By Sunday, the Idiotarods mess was cleaned up and 30 to 35 carts
