E. Sixth St. slashing

Updated Fri., Jan. 22: On Sat., Jan. 16, at 4:30 p.m., a 30-year-old Newark, N.J., man was assaulted and slashed from ear to mouth by a stranger as he walked on E. Sixth St., police said. The attacker knocked the victim to the ground and cut him with an unknown object. The victim suffered a large laceration to the right side of his face and a small laceration to his back. According to the New York Post the attack occurred in front of 608 E. Sixth St. and the victim required 150 stitches to close the wound on his face.

Police called it a random attack.

On Thursday police announced that, as a result of an investigation, Francis Salud, 28, had been arrested at 11:30 a.m. that day near a family member’s home at 89 E. Fourth St. and Second Ave. He was charged with assault.

The Post reported that Salud was arrested in October for slashing a man in the side in a courtyard at Bellevue over a fight over a cigarette. The victim in that case needed 73 stitches to close his wound. Salad was released from jail on $30,000 bail after that attack, the Post said.

On Thurs., Jan. 14, around 10:45 p.m., a man approached a 27-year-old woman inside of an elevator of a building in the vicinity of E. 12th St. and Third Ave., police said. The suspect simulated a firearm and demanded money from the victim. He fled on foot with $150. The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as last seen wearing a dark winter jacket and a dark winter hat.

On Thurs., Jan. 14, at 4:20 p.m., two individuals entered Jonty Jacobs — a store selling South African biltong (dried beef) and other meat products — at 114 Christopher St., approached the salesperson and simulated a gun, police said.

The men demanded money, then removed $200 and a Dell laptop computer before fleeing westbound on Christopher St. There were no reported injuries.

The first suspect is described as 25, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown eyes and short black close-cut hair. He was last seen wearing a black-and-gray hooded ski jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers.

The second suspect is also described as 25, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded ski jacket, black jeans, a black ski cap and multicolored sneakers.
