With festive costumes and floats, golden glitter and paint galore and steel drums beating out a Caribbean beat, the West Indian American Day Parade sashayed down Eastern Parkway on Monday. Reportedly caught in the crossfire of a gun battle between rival gangs, Carey Gabay, first deputy counsel for the Empire State Development Corporation, was struck in the head. He was listed in critical condition. At least police-community relations were looking good, judging by the photo of the officer and dancers.
