On Oct. 7, a new plaque was unveiled on the exterior of 2 Fifth Ave., commemorating former resident Bella Abzug, left, who served in Congress in the 1970s. Among those joining Abzug’s family members at the dedication were Villager Edie Windsor — the plaintiff in the landmark lawsuit that overturned the Defense of Marriage Act and its prohibition on gay marriage — historian Blanche Wiesen Cook and local feminist writer Barbara Love, along with other friends and feminists. Now making a matched pair, a similar plaque for Abzug’s neighbor former Mayor Ed Koch graces the other side of 2 Fifth Ave.’s doorway.
