A party of New York University Chabad members came to the Greenwich House senior center on Washington Square North bearing dozens of hamantashen — triangular pastries in the shape of Haman’s hat, with poppy seed, prune or apricot filling, for a pre-Purim party. They led the seniors in song and dance and told an abridged version of the Purim story — how Queen Esther delivered the Jews of the Persian Empire from the evil plans of royal vizier Haman.
