A special Villager supplement

Above, a possible design scenario for a “floating pond” on the High Line Park at W. 14th St. Construction of the 1.4-mile-long park along the abandoned West Side elevated freight railway — recently acquired by the city — will commence in 2006 on the section from Gansevoort to 14th Sts. Final designs for the $100 million project are still being completed. The first section is slated to open in 2008. At far right, a sign at this summer’s Howl! Festival of East Village Arts. At right, some of the people who are trying to “be the change,”
