A conversation with Johnny Cirillo, Watching New York

If you’ve ever strutted down the stylish streets of SoHo or caught a glimpse of a gaggle of hipsters decked out in freshly thrifted vintage finds, you know New York’s reputation as a fashion capital isn’t limited to just the fancy Fashion Week runway shows. The city’s best dressed aren’t just models, influencers and Kardashians, they’re everyday New Yorkers with extraordinary style.

No one knows that better than Johnny Cirillo, photographer and creator of the street-style Instagram account, @WatchingNewYork.

Following in the footsteps of iconic fashion photographer Bill Cunningham, Johnny’s candid captures of quintessential New York swag have amassed more than 1 million followers on Instagram.

“I think New York in general is a hotspot for fashion because it’s a place that accepts all people, all walks of life,” he said. “So you can explore, you can experiment without feeling judged like you may in other places.”
