A contractor doing work for the city at First Ave. and Houston St. hit an electrical feeder, according to Allan Drury, a Con Ed spokesperson. There were no injuries, and repairs were ongoing on Thursday evening when the photo above was taken. A worker at the scene Thursday night said there had been “an explosion” when the accident occurred, which Drury could not immediately confirm.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the contractor that hit the feeder was working for Con Ed.
