Adopt-a-dog day afternoon in Washington Square Park

Happy scenes from last year’s Adopt-a-Palooza.

On Sat., May 19, the Alliance for New York City’s Animals will host the third annual Adopt-a-Palooza in Washington Square Park. The event gives animal lovers the opportunity to adopt on the spot more than 100 fully immunized and spayed/neutered, furry friends of various breeds and ages. The family friendly event — from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — welcomes pet owners to bring their own dogs, cats and kids for a day of face painting, pet portraits, a dog agility ring and other fun activities. A poker-playing dog will demonstrate his card skills and there will also be a pet fashion show. Adopt-a-Palooza focuses on saving animals, many that would otherwise be euthanized, by finding them safe, loving, comfortable homes. Last year, about 75 percent of the animals at the event were adopted.
