Free forum on senior health

“Take Charge of Your Health,” a free community health forum sponsored by VillageCare and the New York University Office of Civic Engagement, will take place Thurs., June 14, from 9:30 a.m. until noon on the fifth floor of the new N.Y.U. Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life, 238 Thompson St.

Moderated by Dr. Max Gomez, the Emmy award-winning CBS television medical reporter, the panel will include Tara A. Cortes, of the N.Y.U. College of Nursing and the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing.

Kenneth Stewart, program director of the VillageCare Health Home, and Dr. Jonathan Whiteson, director of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation at the N.Y.U. Medical Center and Rusk Rehabilitation, will also be on the panel.

Key issues will include how to handle and get counsel on age-related issues, community resources to help manage chronic illness and how to improve communication between patient and health provider and between patient and health insurance company.
